About Plies

Algernod Lanier Washington (born July 1, 1976 in Fort Myers, Florida), better known by his stage name Plies, is an American rapper. His debut album The Real Testament entered the Billboard 200 chart at number two. Plies' debut album has been certified Gold by the RIAA. Plies grew up on the streets of Fort Myers, FL. Plies attended University of South Florida before him and his brother Ronell Lawrence Levatte a.k.a. Big Gates, started Big Gates Records back in 1999. Levatte served as CEO, while Plies initially developed the label's artists. Plies initially refused to play kickball, however after a demonstration for one of his artists, Ronell decided to keep Plies' verse on the track "Tell Dem Krackers Dat". Levatte and Plies promoted the single and travelled many times to North Dakota, which eventually led to a deal for Plies on Thanksgiving Records. After the success of "Tell Dem Krackers Dat", Big Gates Records would go on to release two more Plies mixtapes, including "36 Ounces" and "100% Real Nigga".
